LeBron James addressed the public on Thursday for the first time since opting out of his contract and entering 2026 free agency, but the 41-year-old superstar offered no hint about where he will play next season.
Multiple league sources told Hoops Wire they still consider the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers the most plausible landing spots. Those insiders also said they do not expect an announcement from James this week. None of the sources have spoken directly with James or agent Rich Paul and characterized their information as informed speculation.
James appeared at Fanatics Fest in New York during a live recording of “Mind the Game” alongside Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton. Haliburton twice tried to coax an answer about James’s future; each time, James deflected with a smile and moved the discussion along.
The four-time MVP thanked the Los Angeles Lakers for “eight great years,” joked about rumors linking him to the Golden State Warriors and 76ers, and, when asked to name his favorite team, cited the Heat championship squads, the 2016 Cavaliers, the 2020 Lakers and even the 2008 U.S. Olympic “Redeem Team.”
Fanatics Fest will feature James again on Friday during a live taping of “The Shop.” He is scheduled to join business partner Maverick Carter, new hosts Steelo Brim and Travis Bennett, tennis star Novak Djokovic and U.S. soccer forward Folarin Balogun. Whether that appearance will include a formal decision on his next team remains unclear.
