LeBron James triggered a fresh wave of offseason speculation on Wednesday when the Los Angeles Lakers star appeared to “like” an Instagram video that featured a “Come Home” message aimed at the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The social-media action immediately lit up NBA circles, arriving as the 39-year-old prepares to enter free agency for the first time in several years. James has publicly stated he has not decided whether he will continue playing, although ESPN’s Shams Charania recently reported that league insiders still expect him to return for at least one more season.
While most observers consider the Lakers the favorites to retain the four-time MVP, Cleveland remains a perennial subplot. Since James left Northeast Ohio for Los Angeles in 2018, rumors of a third stint with the Cavaliers have surfaced virtually every summer.
The on-court fit is easy to picture. Cleveland already features All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell alongside Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, a trio that pushed the franchise into contention. Adding James would instantly reshape the Eastern Conference landscape.
The financial picture is far more complicated. The Cavaliers project to be above the NBA’s second luxury-tax apron next season, meaning a reunion would likely require one of three scenarios: a significant pay cut by James, a complex sign-and-trade with the Lakers, or major salary maneuvering elsewhere on the Cavs’ roster.
None of those hurdles stopped fans from dreaming on Wednesday. A post from @TheDunkCentral captured the Instagram “like” and spread quickly across social platforms, stoking memories of James’s previous Cleveland homecomings in 2003 and 2014—and keeping another potential return squarely in the public conversation.
