Los Angeles Dodgers owner Mark Walter is on track to become the Los Angeles Lakers’ majority owner before the month ends, according to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.

Shelburne reports that Walter will present his record-setting proposal to the NBA’s Advisory Finance Committee on Friday. The committee is expected to examine the offer, then forward a recommendation to the league’s Board of Governors, which could vote on the transaction late next week.

Walter already controls a 27% minority stake in the franchise, purchased in 2021 alongside businessman Todd Boehly. His group now plans to buy a substantial portion of the Buss family’s 66% holding, valuing the team at roughly $10 billion.

Although the Buss family will sell a large share, current governor Jeanie Buss is expected to keep that position for several years. The family intends to retain at least a 15% interest, the minimum needed for a minority owner to serve as team governor.

The Lakers and Walter previously indicated that the sale was projected to close in the third or fourth quarter of 2025.
