Lakers reportedly consider Kevin Love as potential addition alongside LeBron James

Los Angeles is expected to spend much of the offseason securing LeBron James’s return, and a familiar name could join the conversation. Veteran NBA reporter Marc Spears said on ESPN’s “NBA Today” that forward Kevin Love may surface as a free-agency target for the Lakers, opening the door to a reunion of two members of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ 2016 championship roster.

“LeBron is likely coming back,” Spears told the show. “Kevin Love could likely be joining the Lakers, too. I could see those two guys being reunited there.”

There is no indication a deal is close, but the scenario gained attention after James and Love spent time together in London this month while celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Cleveland’s historic title run. Both players are positioned to enter unrestricted free agency later in June.

Love, who will turn 38 in September, finished last season with the Utah Jazz. He appeared in 37 games, averaging 6.7 points and 5.8 rebounds. While his All-Star days are behind him, the 6-foot-8 veteran is still valued for his leadership, perimeter shooting and frontcourt depth—areas the Lakers plan to address this summer.

Most sources cited by Hoops Wire believe James, 39, will ultimately remain in Los Angeles despite periodic speculation connecting him to the Cavaliers or Golden State Warriors. Should he re-sign, Los Angeles could explore additional moves, and Spears considers a possible Love reunion one storyline to monitor.
