Sacramento Kings general manager Scott Perry will represent the franchise on stage at Sunday’s NBA draft lottery, where the club owns an 11.5 percent chance of securing the No. 1 pick and a 45.2 percent probability of landing in the top four. The team cannot fall lower than No. 9.

“The lottery is all about chance,” Perry told Marc J. Spears of Andscape. “We’re going in at five, and we’ll start listening at nine, because that’s as far as we can drop.”

Comfortable With Any Outcome

Perry said Sacramento sees value even in the least-favorable scenario. “This could be a really good, deep draft, so you have to be comfortable with nine players,” he noted, adding that the Kings are prepared to stay put or adjust depending on where the pick lands.

Focus on Depth and Development

The veteran executive believes the class will allow the club to add talent regardless of position. “Wherever we land, we’ll find somebody who improves our roster,” he said. “The second part is developing that player once he arrives.”

Pitch to Future Prospects

Looking ahead to the 2026 pool, Perry said the organization promises “stable leadership” and a chance to help build a sustainable winner in the Western Conference—an opportunity he expects will attract players seeking both team and individual success.

Positive Reviews for 2025 Rookies

Perry praised last season’s rookie group—Nique Clifford, Maxime Raynaud, and undrafted big man Dylan Cardwell, whose two-way deal was later converted. He cited their work habits, willingness to learn from coaches and veterans, and steady improvement throughout the year. “They can’t stop there,” he added. “We expect them to be better next season.”

Six Pillars and Offseason Strategy

The GM said he looks for six traits in players: competitive, tough, team-oriented, accountable, professional, and disciplined. As for the summer, Perry plans to be “prudent and opportunistic,” exploring every avenue—draft, free agency, and potential trades—to improve the roster while managing financial considerations.

The Kings’ final draft position will be determined when the lottery results are revealed on Sunday evening.
