The Chicago Bulls announced that guard Josh Giddey has undergone a successful arthroscopic procedure on his right ankle.

According to the team, the 23-year-old is expected to resume basketball activities in roughly three months, placing his return to the court in mid-August. Chicago anticipates he will be fully available when training camp opens in late September.

Giddey appeared in 54 games during the 2025-26 season, missing extended stretches primarily because of hamstring issues. His right ankle, however, has been a recurring concern since he ruptured the anterior talo-fibular ligament during the 2024 Olympics with Australia. Multiple sprains have followed over the past two years.

While the Bulls are widely expected to overhaul their roster under new head of basketball operations Bryson Graham, Giddey’s role appears secure. The former Thunder lottery pick, acquired by Chicago in the 2024 offseason, established career highs this season with averages of 17.0 points, 9.1 assists and 8.3 rebounds per game while shooting .448 from the field, .364 from three-point range and .763 at the foul line.

Giddey signed a long-term contract as a restricted free agent last offseason and has three years and $75 million remaining on that deal.
