Boston will face Philadelphia in Saturday’s decisive Game 7 without All-Star forward Jayson Tatum, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The Celtics downgraded Tatum earlier in the day because of knee stiffness that forced him to miss the final 16 minutes of Thursday’s Game 6 defeat. Head coach Joe Mazzulla told reporters the decision was made after the 26-year-old arrived with continued discomfort. “He just came in today with knee discomfort,” Mazzulla said, via MassLive’s Brian Robb. “The medical team and myself decided for him not to play.”

Tatum had insisted the issue was “not a big deal,” noting the pain was in the opposite leg from his previous Achilles injury. Through six games in the series, he averaged 23.3 points, 10.7 rebounds and 6.8 assists while shooting 47.5 percent from the field and 36.5 percent from three-point range.

Boston, which once led the series 3-1, now looks to advance without its leading scorer after dropping the past two contests.
