David Duke Jr. signs in Italy
Pallacanestro Varese announced a multiyear agreement with former NBA guard David Duke Jr. The 26-year-old went undrafted out of Providence in 2021 but logged 55 regular-season appearances with the Nets and Spurs between 2021 and 2025, averaging 4.2 points and 2.0 rebounds in 11.9 minutes. He spent last season with the Perth Wildcats in Australia and Basquet Manresa in Spain.
Varese eyeing Christian Koloko
The Italian club is also looking to bolster its frontcourt and is monitoring free-agent center Christian Koloko, according to La Prealpina. Koloko, however, is reportedly focused on securing another NBA contract. Because he spent part of the 2023/24 campaign under contract with Toronto, the 24-year-old has accrued four years of NBA service, making him ineligible for a two-way deal.
Mamadi Diakite moves to Dubai
Dubai Basketball confirmed a multiyear pact with forward/center Mamadi Diakite. The 29-year-old appeared in 55 NBA games for five teams from 2020 to 2024, averaging 3.1 points and 2.3 rebounds in 9.6 minutes, and won a championship ring with Milwaukee in 2021. He spent last season with Baskonia in Spain.
Willy Hernangómez joins Unicaja Málaga
After three seasons with Barcelona, veteran center Willy Hernangómez has signed a one-year contract with Unicaja Málaga. The 32-year-old played 344 NBA games for the Knicks, Hornets and Pelicans from 2016 to 2023.
NBL additions in Australia
- Guard Skylar Mays (NBA 2020-24) agreed to terms with the South East Melbourne Phoenix.
- Forward/center Jonah Bolden (2018-20) signed with the Cairns Taipans.
- Forward Darius Days (2023) will return to the Illawarra Hawks after appearing for the club in 2024/25.
Queta headlines Portugal roster
Boston Celtics center Neemias Queta is the lone active NBA player selected for Portugal’s upcoming World Cup qualifying window. Portugal (3-3) is slated to play Spain on Aug. 28 and Georgia on Aug. 31.
