The Atlanta Hawks have signed head coach Quin Snyder to a multiyear contract extension, the club announced Thursday morning. Financial details and the exact length of the new deal were not released.
“I am grateful to the Ressler family and humbled to continue leading this team,” Snyder said in the statement. “Atlanta has truly been home for my family, and I am excited to continue this journey.”
Focus on Stability
The move comes shortly after the organization extended Onsi Saleh’s contract and elevated him from general manager to president of basketball operations, signaling a broader push for continuity in the front office and on the bench.
Playoff Return in Year Three
Snyder, 59, guided Atlanta to its first postseason appearance in three seasons, finishing the regular schedule on a 20-6 surge to claim the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference. The Hawks fell to New York in six games, but remain the only team to hand the Knicks a defeat in the current playoffs.
This year’s turnaround followed significant roster changes. All-Star guard Trae Young was traded to Washington in January, while the incoming deal brought veteran scorer CJ McCollum, who delivered key late-game performances in both of Atlanta’s playoff wins. The revamped lineup emphasized defense and athleticism.
Coaching Résumé
Since arriving midway through the 2022-23 campaign after eight seasons with Utah, Snyder has compiled a 132-135 record in Atlanta and owns a 504-399 mark overall. He is the only NBA coach to oversee back-to-back Most Improved Player winners, with Dyson Daniels earning the honor last season and Nickeil Alexander-Walker claiming it the year before.
Reports last month indicated an extension was expected, even as speculation briefly linked Snyder to a potential opening in Cleveland.
The Hawks did not announce a timetable for introducing the new agreement, and no further personnel moves were disclosed.
