Atlanta’s front office moved quickly to reunite general manager Onsi Saleh with a familiar face, finalizing a deal that brings 23-year-old forward Jonathan Kuminga and veteran shooter Buddy Hield to the Hawks in exchange for Kristaps Porzingis. Saleh, who worked in Golden State’s front office for three seasons, said Kuminga’s athleticism, rim pressure and size on the wing fit Atlanta’s long-term plans. “I’m really excited about Jonathan,” Saleh told reporters.

Kuminga is currently sidelined by a bone bruise in his left knee and is expected to remain out through the All-Star break. The team anticipates he will be ready to contribute once cleared.

Saleh also highlighted Hield’s perimeter shooting and “hilarious personality” as positives for the locker room.

Landale’s quick arrival, strong debut

Newly acquired center Jock Landale delivered 26 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and four blocks in Thursday’s victory over Utah. Landale was in Memphis when the trade was completed and chose to drive the five-and-a-half hours to Atlanta rather than wait for a team-provided flight. “If I’m looking to play that next night, I want to get there as soon as possible,” he said.

Atlanta is sending $3 million to Utah as part of the Landale transaction, according to Bleacher Report.

Okongwu returns; roster update

Forward Onyeka Okongwu rejoined the lineup Saturday after missing four games because of a dental fracture. Kuminga was the lone player remaining on the injury report for that contest.

Deadline approach

Speaking before Saturday’s game, Saleh said the organization prioritized “future forward” moves at the trade deadline. He emphasized that the flexibility created at the start of the season remains intact and that preserving options for the summer was a key objective.
