The Memphis Grizzlies plan to waive Eric Gordon after acquiring the 37-year-old guard from the Philadelphia 76ers, according to Yahoo Sports.
The transaction was primarily a salary-cap maneuver. Gordon is on a one-year veteran minimum contract worth approximately $2.3 million, making it easy for Memphis to clear his deal from the books.
Gordon appeared in only six games this season and was never included in the Grizzlies’ rotation plans. Once he is released, league rules bar him from re-signing with the 76ers but allow him to join any other team.
The former Sixth Man of the Year is in his 18th NBA season and has logged nearly 1,000 career games as a reliable scorer and perimeter threat, though his role has diminished in recent years.
