The scramble behind the expected top three selections in the 2026 NBA draft has placed North Carolina forward Caleb Wilson squarely in the spotlight for the No. 4 pick, currently held by the Chicago Bulls.
“In a lot of other drafts, he could be No. 2—maybe even No. 1,” ESPN recruiting director Paul Biancardi said, likening Wilson’s skill set to Hall of Famer James Worthy. Fellow ESPN analyst Jay Bilas described Wilson as “probably the most dynamic athlete in the class.”
Wilson, who flashed an expanding offensive game during his lone season in Chapel Hill, said he would welcome a landing spot in Chicago: “I would be really excited to land there. I feel like I would bring a lot of energy, charisma and leadership to their team.”
Workout Circuit Updates
Labaron Philon, Alabama’s freshman guard projected to go in the late lottery, is scheduled to work out for the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to the Star Tribune. Minnesota owns the 28th pick, prompting speculation the club could explore a trade up—as it did in 2024 when it acquired the No. 8 selection to take Rob Dillingham. The Wolves are expected to seek additional ball-handling help this offseason.
Guards Keaton Wagler and Mikel Brown Jr. have both canceled visits with the Sacramento Kings (No. 7). Wagler may still meet with the Brooklyn Nets before draft night; Brown has already worked out for Brooklyn, which controls the No. 6 choice and is reportedly high on the Louisville prospect.
Pelicans Eye Lottery Move
The New Orleans Pelicans are rumored to be pursuing a trade into the lottery. League observers point to rebounding, rim protection and three-point shooting as primary needs. Forward Nate Ament is among the prospects believed to be on the team’s radar.
With less than a month until draft night, front-office maneuvering and last-minute workouts continue to reshape the board beyond the consensus top three.
