Former Cleveland Cavaliers forward Channing Frye says he hopes LeBron James returns to the franchise for one final season.

Speaking on a recent episode of the “Road Trippin” podcast alongside ex-teammate Richard Jefferson, Frye laid out his wish for the upcoming offseason. “Go back to Cleveland,” he said. “That’s what I wanna see. Go back home, last year, let’s get it done.”

What Frye Believes James Would Bring

Frye argued that adding James would immediately supply the Cavaliers with another ball-handler, increased toughness and veteran leadership around a core that already features Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen.

He also noted Cleveland could move forward without pursuing James Harden, who is expected to decline his player option and enter free agency this summer.

James’ Pending Free Agency

James, 41, can become a free agent for the first time since 2018 if he opts to continue playing instead of retiring. Multiple reports have identified the Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers as the most likely destinations should he suit up for a 24th NBA season.

The four-time MVP recently intensified speculation by liking a social-media post urging him to “come home” to Cleveland once more.

A Historic Cavaliers Résumé

Across two previous stints with his hometown team, James captured two league MVP awards, led the Cavaliers to the 2016 NBA championship and delivered the city’s first major sports title in more than five decades. Reflecting on that triumph during an appearance on “Bob Does Sports,” he said, “Winning in Cleveland was probably the most special one. My main mission was, I want to win one for this city.”

With the offseason approaching, Frye’s plea adds another layer to the growing conversation about whether James will close his career where it began.
