The Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers have finalized a major Atlantic Division trade that will move five-time All-Star Jaylen Brown to Philadelphia and bring Paul George and four draft picks to Boston, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Wednesday on X (formerly Twitter).
According to Charania, Boston will receive:
- a 2028 first-round pick that could become the most favorable selection available to the Celtics,
- Philadelphia’s unprotected 2031 first-round pick,
- the most favorable of the Warriors, Thunder, or Bucks 2028 second-round pick, and
- the most favorable of the Wizards, Trail Blazers, or Suns 2030 second-round pick.
The 76ers currently control the Clippers’ unprotected 2028 first-round pick and also hold their own pick if it lands in the top eight. If Philadelphia’s pick falls outside that protected range, the Clippers’ pick is expected to go to Boston; otherwise, the Celtics would receive the more favorable of the two selections.
Brown Heads South After Career Year
Brown, 29, is coming off his best NBA season, posting career highs of 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game while the Celtics went 56-26 without injured star Jayson Tatum for much of the schedule. The wing earned All-NBA Second Team honors and placed sixth in MVP voting.
Despite Boston’s first-round playoff exit to Philadelphia, Brown publicly called 2025-26 his “favorite season,” suggesting he relished serving as the club’s primary scorer. In the weeks that followed, reports surfaced that the Celtics explored trading him—first in a package for Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo and later in multiple league-wide scenarios. Charania said Brown never asked out, but Boston encouraged teams to submit offers this week, indicating it was ready to move on.
George Joins Celtics
George, 36, heads to Boston after two seasons with Philadelphia. The nine-time All-Star averaged 21.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists last year and is expected to slide into a featured scoring role alongside Tatum.
No additional roster moves were announced, and both teams have yet to confirm when the trade will become official.
