The Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers formally completed a major trade on Monday, one day after the NBA’s offseason moratorium expired, moving All-Star wing Jaylen Brown to Philadelphia in exchange for veteran forward Paul George and four draft selections.

Both organizations issued statements once league rules allowed the transaction to be announced.

“Jaylen has proven himself as one of the league’s top players year after year,” 76ers president of basketball operations Mike Gansey said. “He is a dynamic play-maker with a versatile skill set that positively impacts the game on both ends of the floor. His wealth of experience, high basketball IQ, poise and leadership will benefit this franchise for years to come.”

Celtics president Brad Stevens acknowledged Brown’s decade in Boston. “Jaylen will rightfully go down as one of the defining players of this era,” Stevens noted. “Like the best Celtics before him, he is a terrific player and has also had a huge impact off the court.” Stevens added that Brown’s legacy in Boston “is forever etched in stone.”

Brown, 27, was drafted third overall in 2016 and spent 10 seasons with the Celtics, collecting five All-Star selections, two All-NBA nods and helping the club capture the 2024 NBA championship. Philadelphia now pairs him with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and rookie VJ Edgecombe in pursuit of another title run.

Boston turns the page with a core led by Jayson Tatum, newly acquired George and an expanded cache of future picks. Whether the swap benefits either franchise long term remains to be seen, but as of Monday one of the most productive partnerships in recent Celtics history is officially over.
