The possibility of the Boston Celtics moving All-Star guard Jaylen Brown is gaining traction around the NBA, according to multiple ESPN reports.
Speaking Thursday on ESPN Radio’s “Unsportsmanlike,” network insider Brian Windhorst said the prevailing view among rival executives is that Boston intends to trade the five-time All-Star. “He’s going to get traded,” Windhorst stated, adding that the organization is actively surveying offers after failing to land Giannis Antetokounmpo earlier in the offseason.
Windhorst noted recent remarks from Celtics president Brad Stevens, who praised Brown but stopped short of guaranteeing the 29-year-old will stay in Boston. “It’s not a guarantee they’re going to find a deal they like,” Windhorst said, “but I think they are intending to trade him.”
ESPN’s Shams Charania previously reported that discussions involving Brown could stretch into July while the Celtics continue evaluating potential packages.
Brown is coming off a career year, averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists and earning All-NBA Second Team honors. He becomes eligible next month for a two-year extension worth approximately $142 million, a contract marker expected to factor into any negotiations.
