The Boston Celtics’ front office continues to explore a potential blockbuster for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, and All-NBA wing Jaylen Brown is preparing for the possibility that he could be included in any deal, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.
Speaking on ESPN’s “First Take,” Windhorst said Brown “is accepting this and realizes this is a chance to turn the page in his career and he may be getting his own team,” noting that such an opportunity has been on the player’s mind “for some time.”
Windhorst added that Brown’s outlook does not necessarily indicate a desire to leave Boston, but rather an understanding of the NBA’s business realities as negotiations unfold.
League chatter places the Celtics among the leading contenders for Antetokounmpo, and prevailing belief around the NBA is that Milwaukee would require Brown as the centerpiece of any agreement. Should Boston succeed in landing the two-time MVP, Brown would almost certainly be sent elsewhere.
Even if talks with Milwaukee stall, multiple teams are expected to gauge the Celtics’ willingness to move Brown as Boston evaluates other roster-building options.
Brown is coming off arguably his best professional season. With Jayson Tatum sidelined until March while recovering from a torn Achilles, the 27-year-old took on a larger role, earned All-NBA Second Team recognition, and briefly entered the MVP conversation, elevating his trade value.
Boston now faces a franchise-defining choice. For Brown, indications are that he is ready for whichever direction the Celtics choose.
