The Boston Celtics are reportedly prepared to discuss a trade built around guard Jaylen Brown in an effort to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic.
League sources told Amick that Milwaukee is expected to demand more than Brown alone. Boston could add up to three future first-round picks, though it remains unclear how far the organization is willing to go to land the two-time MVP.
If the Celtics decide to keep their All-Star pairing of Brown and Jayson Tatum, the team is also said to have interest in New Orleans Pelicans wing Trey Murphy III.
Trail Blazers’ Position
The Portland Trail Blazers have been linked to Antetokounmpo in recent months, but Amick reports the franchise is not aggressively pursuing a deal at this time. Uncertainty over whether Antetokounmpo would commit beyond his current contract—which allows him to become a free agent in 2027—has tempered Portland’s approach.
Portland would, however, hold “serious interest” in Brown should Boston make him available, per the report. Brown is under contract for three more seasons, offering greater long-term security than Antetokounmpo.
Grizzlies Monitoring Ja Morant Market
Trade speculation surrounding Ja Morant has slowed recently, but the Memphis Grizzlies believe interest could rise depending on Antetokounmpo’s future. According to Amick, Memphis hopes Morant could become a fallback target for teams that miss out on the Bucks star.
The Miami Heat are viewed as one of the clubs with genuine interest in Morant. Should Miami fail in a pursuit of Antetokounmpo, Memphis may look to obtain assets similar to those the Heat might have offered Milwaukee.
