The Philadelphia 76ers have hired Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Mike Gansey as their new president of basketball operations, league sources told ESPN on May 29, 2026.
Gansey, 43, moves to Philadelphia after 15 seasons in Cleveland, where he rose from front-office newcomer in 2011-12 to general manager in 2022. He had served as assistant GM under Cavaliers president of basketball operations Koby Altman before taking the club’s No. 2 post.
The Sixers’ vacancy opened earlier this month when former president of basketball operations Daryl Morey stepped down. Gansey and Philadelphia assistant GM Jameer Nelson were identified as the leading contenders during the search process.
Former Golden State Warriors architect Bob Myers, now president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, led the search and is expected to collaborate with Gansey as the organization charts its next steps.
Gansey inherits a franchise facing intense scrutiny after another early playoff exit. Cleveland, meanwhile, must fill a significant hole in its leadership structure just days after ownership voiced confidence in the current front office despite a sweep against the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference finals.
