CHICAGO — The Chicago Bulls have entered the mix for Los Angeles Clippers restricted free agent Bennedict Mathurin, veteran NBA reporter Marc Stein reported Monday.
Chicago joins the New Orleans Pelicans as the latest club evaluating a run at the 24-year-old wing. Stein previously noted that the Pelicans are considering moving guard Jordan Hawkins’ contract to open enough space to use a significant chunk of their mid-level exception on an offer sheet for Mathurin.
Los Angeles obtained Mathurin from the Indiana Pacers in February. Despite limited time with the Clippers, the 6-foot-6 scorer remains one of the most sought-after restricted free agents still on the board this summer.
Mathurin has built a reputation for quick scoring bursts while still offering upside, making him a logical target for teams seeking young perimeter talent. Whether the Bulls mount a formal offer or simply monitor the situation has not yet been determined.
With Chicago now showing interest, Mathurin’s free-agency process could gain momentum as the offseason progresses.
