Chicago Bulls guard Rob Dillingham underwent a minor operation to remove a ganglion cyst from his right wrist, the team announced Wednesday.

Ganglion cysts are non-cancerous, jelly-filled lumps that typically form on hands or wrists. While generally harmless, they can restrict movement or cause pain when pressing on a nerve, according to the Mayo Clinic.

The club did not indicate whether the cyst affected Dillingham’s performance during the 2025-26 campaign. The need for surgery, however, suggests the issue had become bothersome.

Dillingham, 21, was selected eighth overall in the 2024 NBA Draft. After struggling to secure steady minutes with the Minnesota Timberwolves, he was sent to Chicago at this season’s trade deadline in the package that moved Ayo Dosunmu to Minnesota.

In 30 appearances off the Bulls’ bench following the trade, the rookie guard averaged 9.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.8 assists over 21.5 minutes per game, shooting 42.8% from the field and 30.0% from beyond the arc.

The Kentucky product enters the third year of his rookie-scale contract in July, carrying a guaranteed $6.89 million salary for 2026-27. Chicago must decide by Oct. 31 whether to exercise his $8.76 million team option for 2027-28, which would make him eligible for a rookie-scale extension in the 2027 offseason and set up potential restricted free agency in 2028.
