PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Trail Blazers have reached a two-way agreement with free-agent guard John Tonje, agents George Roussakis and Mark Bartelstein told ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Tonje, 25, spent most of last season on a two-way contract with Utah before the Jazz traded him to Boston in February. The Celtics elected not to extend a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent. Selected 53rd overall in the 2025 NBA Draft, the 6-foot-6 guard appeared in six games for Boston and averaged 2.5 points.
He was far more productive in the G League, where he averaged 18.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and shot 37.1 percent from three in 43 games split between Salt Lake City and Maine. Tonje carried that momentum into Summer League, posting 14.8 points per game while hitting 45.2 percent from deep for the Celtics. Portland had one open two-way slot, so no additional roster move was required.
Rockets Add Rebounding Specialist Oscar Tshiebwe
The Houston Rockets have signed 26-year-old center Oscar Tshiebwe to what is expected to be a non-guaranteed deal. Tshiebwe has logged 49 NBA appearances with the Pacers and Jazz, averaging 7.0 points and 6.5 rebounds.
In the G League, the former Kentucky standout dominated the glass with 17.3 rebounds per game over 64 contests the past two seasons. He also grabbed 22 boards in a late-season outing against Memphis while with Utah. Houston already carries 15 standard contracts and sits near the luxury-tax threshold, positioning Tshiebwe for a training-camp battle to secure a roster spot.
Pelicans Finalize Two-Way Contract With Jaron Pierre Jr.
The New Orleans Pelicans have officially signed rookie guard Jaron Pierre Jr., the 58th pick in June’s draft, to a two-way contract. The New Orleans native closed his college career at SMU, averaging 17.6 points and 4.9 rebounds last season while shooting 37 percent from beyond the arc.
Pierre, 22, appeared in three Summer League games for the Pelicans and averaged 10.0 points in 22 minutes. He joins center Hunter Dickinson as the club’s current two-way players, leaving New Orleans with one spot available.
