Veteran sports commentator Bill Simmons said on his latest podcast that LeBron James is already committed to returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers, declaring, “The Cleveland thing is done.”

Simmons did not specify how he obtained the information, but his statement suggests James has chosen the Cavaliers for the next stage of his career. If true, the move would end speculation involving several other franchises believed to be pursuing the four-time NBA champion.

League sources cited by Joe Vardon of The Athletic indicated front-office executives from multiple teams are still uncertain about James’s plans. “We really don’t know,” one general manager told Vardon. “We just know what we read.”

In recent weeks, James has been linked to the Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Golden State Warriors. Interest from the Washington Wizards—where longtime teammate Anthony Davis has been mentioned as a potential partner—has also surfaced.

During a July 10, 2026 appearance on ESPN Cleveland, Simmons suggested Golden State was used “as leverage” before James settled on Cleveland. Neither the Cavaliers nor James’s representatives have commented publicly on Simmons’s claim.

The 39-year-old forward is eligible to sign with any team once free agency opens. Until James or his camp confirms a decision, teams across the league remain in wait-and-see mode.
