Cavaliers Not Actively Shopping De’Andre Hunter Amid Trade Chatter

The Cleveland Cavaliers are not pursuing deals involving forward De’Andre Hunter, according to league signals, even as chatter grows that the player’s representatives would welcome a change of scenery.

Reporter Matt Moore of Hardwood Paroxysm recently noted “a lot of smoke” surrounding Hunter’s future, though he stopped short of describing the situation as a formal trade request. Team sources cited in the same report indicate Cleveland’s priority remains evaluating the roster when healthy before considering major moves.

Hunter, 26, arrived from Atlanta ahead of last season’s trade deadline to bolster the Cavaliers’ wing depth with defense and perimeter shooting. However, this campaign has been the former No. 4 overall pick’s most challenging from the three-point line, and his on-court fit has been inconsistent.

The Cavaliers are the NBA’s only club operating above the second luxury-tax apron, a status that limits roster flexibility and complicates any potential transaction. While not impossible, executives acknowledge that maneuvering under those constraints would require intricate salary matching and likely a third team.

Hunter spent his first five seasons with the Hawks and was once considered a foundational piece in Atlanta. In Cleveland, injuries and shifting roles have contributed to uneven production, but the organization has yet to signal an appetite for a rapid reshuffle.

For now, the Cavaliers appear committed to observing their current core intact, leaving Hunter’s status unchanged unless circumstances force a different approach.
