LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard occupy the three highest spots in The Bounce’s Top 40 Wings list released by The Athletic’s Zach Harper on August 30. Harper places the trio in an “all-time legends” tier, stating they remain among the league’s elite. The next group—labeled All-NBA caliber—features Jimmy Butler, Jaylen Brown, Paul George and Jalen Williams.
ESPN’s Tim Bontemps has identified clubs he believes will outperform or underperform their projected win totals. In his August 30 rundown, the Thunder and Clippers appear on the positive side, while the Pistons and Mavericks are among the teams Bontemps expects to finish below their forecasts.
Former NBA player and coach Kim Hughes has died at age 73, according to Sean Highkin of The Rose Garden Report. Hughes played in the ABA and NBA from 1975 to 1981, then transitioned to scouting and assistant-coaching roles. His most recent NBA position was as a Trail Blazers assistant through the 2014-15 season. He also served as the Clippers’ interim head coach for 33 games in 2009-10.
In the NBA G League, the Noblesville Boom—the Pacers’ affiliate—have acquired the returning-player rights to forward Jalen Slawson from the Birmingham Squadron, the Pelicans’ affiliate. Birmingham receives the returning-player rights to center Garrison Brooks in the exchange. Slawson averaged 11.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists last season with the Osceola Magic, while Brooks has spent the past two seasons playing in Lithuania.
