The Minnesota Timberwolves have designated guard Anthony Edwards as questionable for Monday night’s Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals against the San Antonio Spurs.

Edwards sustained a bone bruise after hyperextending his left knee during a block attempt in Game 4 of the first-round series with the Denver Nuggets on April 25. He completed light on-court work over the weekend, joined the team on its flight to San Antonio on Sunday and was cleared for basketball activities ahead of Monday morning’s shootaround.

Team sources told ESPN that the original recovery goal was to bring Edwards back by Game 3 or Game 4, but his current progress has accelerated that timeline. The 22-year-old has also been dealing with chronic inflammation in his right knee.

On Sunday, Edwards posted a YouTube video showing him running on an underwater treadmill. In the clip, Timberwolves vice president of medical performance David Hines described a projected recovery window of one to two weeks. “How does he look and how is he feeling these next couple weeks?” Hines said. “I think he can return sooner if he can hit all his metrics for pain management, mobility, functional strength.”

Game 1 comes nine days after the injury, while Game 4 is scheduled 15 days post-injury. Without Edwards, Minnesota eliminated Denver in six games but enters the second round as a significant underdog against a Spurs team that won 62 regular-season contests.

The Timberwolves also listed reserve guard Ayo Dosunmu as questionable for Game 1 because of right calf soreness. He missed the series-clinching victory over Denver.
