DETROIT — Every time the Detroit Pistons close out a win at Little Caesars Arena, the same chorus ripples through the speakers: “You know the Pistons won again … ’cause all we do is win.” The track, titled “Pistons Won Again,” belongs to local rapper Gmac Cash — and it has quickly become the soundtrack of the franchise’s revival.

The birth of the song

Gmac Cash, born Gerald Allen, released the single on Jan. 11, 2025. He approached veteran Detroit producer Helluva (real name Martin McCurtis) with a simple request: build a high-energy beat that blended the city’s hard-hitting rap style with a celebratory hook.

“[Gmac] is one of the best rappers that can keep the Detroit style and stick to the topic,” Helluva said. “I visualized people dunking, a crowd going crazy. It had to be something everybody could relate to.”

From losing streak to rally cry

The idea emerged during the 2023-24 season while Detroit endured a franchise-record 28-game losing streak. A regular attendee, Gmac Cash was tired of watching fans leave the arena in silence.

“We just saw them losing so much,” he said. “I wondered if I could bring that same energy I gave the Lions.” (His “Lions Won Again” track caught on in 2021, followed by songs for the Tigers in 2024 and the Red Wings in 2025.)

Instant locker-room approval

Forward Tobias Harris recalls hearing the song for the first time. “He said, ‘Best team in the league, that’s the Detroit Pistons,’” Harris noted. “I always used to say, ‘He’s manifesting that for us.’ Fans love it, teams love it.”

The Pistons soon adopted the single as their official victory tune. According to executive vice president and chief marketing officer Alicia Jeffreys, the decision was easy: “It’s high energy, it’s memorable, and it has that Detroit sound.”

Arena reaction

Gmac Cash did not expect the immediate embrace. “It was a beautiful moment—people were actually rapping it word for word,” he said, recalling the first time the track blared through the arena after a win.

Good-luck reputation

With Detroit entering the 2025-26 playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference for the first time since 2006-07, fans and players have labeled Gmac Cash a “good luck charm.” He wears the tag proudly.

“In Detroit, wins don’t just belong to the team — they belong to the city,” he said. “I made the song about the team, turned up the fan base and helped contribute to that winning energy.”

The rapper, who started honing his craft in school hallways and later went viral for topical parody tracks, now finds his biggest audience in his hometown arenas. For Pistons supporters, “Pistons Won Again” has become more than a song; it is the pulse of a season they hope ends with a championship celebration.
