San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama was seen in Manhattan’s private Gramercy Park on Monday, June 8, calmly sketching one of the park’s statues just hours before Game 3 of the NBA Finals.
According to eyewitness accounts reported by the New York Post, the 7-foot-4 star carried a sketch pad and appeared focused on capturing the artwork in pencil. The unexpected appearance drew curious glances from early-morning visitors but did not create a significant disturbance.
Game 3 of the championship series is scheduled for Monday night at Madison Square Garden, roughly two miles north of the park. The Spurs and their 22-year-old phenom enter the contest tied 1-1 in the best-of-seven matchup.
The scene in Gramercy Park offered a rare glimpse of Wembanyama’s off-court interests as he prepared for one of the most important games of his young NBA career.
