Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant will remain sidelined for Friday’s Game 6 of the first-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers because of the bone bruise in his left ankle, according to sources who spoke with ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The injury will cost the 2014 NBA MVP his fourth straight contest. Durant, 37, was hurt late in Houston’s Game 2 defeat on April 21. He had returned that night after missing the series opener with a bruised tendon in his right knee, finishing Game 2 with 23 points in 41 minutes before leaving in the closing moments.
Houston has won the past two games to trim what had been a 3-0 deficit. Game 6 is set for Toyota Center on Friday; a decisive Game 7, if necessary, would be played Sunday at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Sources said the type of ankle bruise Durant sustained generally requires at least two weeks of recovery. A potential Game 7 would come 12 days after the April 21 injury.
Durant logged 2,840 minutes during the regular season, the second-highest total in the league. In his first year with the Rockets, the 16-time All-Star averaged 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists across 78 games.
