New York Knicks officials are increasingly confident that forward OG Anunoby will return from a right hamstring injury in time for the start of the Eastern Conference Finals, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Anunoby grabbed for the hamstring late in Game 2 of the conference semifinals against the Philadelphia 76ers and has been listed as day-to-day since. The 26-year-old missed the final two contests of New York’s four-game sweep of Philadelphia.

Head coach Mike Brown said Anunoby participated in portions of Wednesday’s practice but avoided live contact. The forward was later seen shooting on his own and completing an individual workout.

“Any time anybody is able to do stuff, you’re encouraged,” Brown told reporters. “But again, that’s what they told me he could do today. I’ll wait until Friday to see what they tell me.”

The Eastern Conference Finals could start as early as Sunday, giving Anunoby 11 days of recovery time. He is averaging 21.4 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.9 steals while shooting 62 percent from the field and 53 percent from three-point range through eight postseason games, ranking second on the team behind Jalen Brunson.
