Los Angeles — Long-time public address announcer Lawrence Tanter was not at the microphone for the Los Angeles Lakers’ home game against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night after the team said he was dealing with “a health matter.”
The Lakers announced Tanter’s absence shortly before tip-off at Crypto.com Arena. The club did not specify the nature of the issue or provide a timetable for his return.
Tanter, whose smooth baritone has introduced Lakers lineups for more than four decades, rarely misses games. His voice has become a staple of the franchise since he took over the PA role in 1982.
The Lakers did not name a replacement, and no further details were released.
