Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said he is “not concerned” after an email from team owner Joe Lacob, sent to a fan following Sunday’s 136-131 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, became public.
In the message, first posted on Reddit by Warriors supporter Justin Dutari, Lacob responded to criticism about the roster and Jimmy Butler’s role, writing, “You can’t be as frustrated as me. I am working on it. It’s complicated … Jimmy is not the problem.” The Warriors confirmed the email’s authenticity.
Addressing reporters Tuesday in San Francisco, Kerr called the leak “not a big deal” and emphasized that frustration is shared throughout the organization. “Joe is frustrated. I’m frustrated. Steph and Draymond, everybody’s frustrated,” he said.
Golden State fell to 13-14 with the defeat in Portland and sits eighth in the Western Conference, well below preseason expectations during what could be the closing stretch of Stephen Curry’s prime.
Kerr, in the final year of his contract, reiterated that he will wait until the offseason to discuss an extension. Lacob and general manager Mike Dunleavy have publicly backed the coach, and Curry has also voiced support for keeping Kerr beyond this season.
“Joe supports me 100 percent. I support him,” Kerr said. “Our stable environment is one of our strengths.”
