NEW YORK — The Knicks believe forward Jeremy Sochan’s first-hand understanding of Victor Wembanyama could become a decisive factor when the NBA Finals begin next week.
Sochan, speaking with reporters on Monday, said he “know[s] quite a lot” about the 7-foot-4 French phenom, according to the New York Post. That familiarity stems from their time together in San Antonio, where Wembanyama emerged as one of the league’s most challenging matchups.
New York is preparing specialized defensive plans for its Finals opponent and views Sochan’s daily practice battles against Wembanyama as a resource for scouting tendencies, footwork and preferred spots on the floor, the report added.
The Knicks open the best-of-seven series later this week, looking for their first championship since 1973. Coaches and players indicated that Sochan’s detailed notes on Wembanyama’s habits will be incorporated into film sessions and walk-throughs before Game 1.
