Veteran broadcaster Dan Patrick sharply criticized San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama on June 15 2026, labeling the 22-year-old French star “petty” in the wake of the Spurs’ defeat in the NBA Finals.
Speaking during his syndicated radio program, Patrick referenced Wembanyama’s post-game remarks following San Antonio’s series-clinching loss, contending that the player’s tone did not reflect well on the organization. “It came off as small and unnecessary,” Patrick said, calling the comments “petty.”
The Spurs had fallen in six games, ending a postseason that had seen Wembanyama emerge as the franchise’s focal point. The defeat marked San Antonio’s first Finals appearance since 2014.
Patrick praised New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson in contrast, describing Brunson as “all class” after the Knicks were eliminated in the Eastern Conference finals. The host suggested Wembanyama could learn from Brunson’s approach to setbacks.
Neither Wembanyama nor the Spurs immediately responded to Patrick’s remarks.
