Basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley stated that LeBron James now has an opportunity to pass Michael Jordan as the greatest NBA player of all time, the New York Post reported on July 24, 2026.
The former Phoenix Suns star did not declare James the definitive “GOAT,” but told the newspaper that the Los Angeles Lakers forward’s ongoing accomplishments have brought him “within reach” of Jordan’s legacy.
Barkley’s comments add fresh fuel to a debate that has followed James throughout his 21-season career. While Jordan’s résumé includes six championships and five MVP awards, James has accumulated four titles, four MVPs, and the league’s all-time scoring record.
