PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers have exercised the third-year option in Jared McCain’s rookie contract, keeping the second-year guard under team control through the 2026-27 season, president of basketball operations Daryl Morey announced Thursday.
McCain has yet to appear in a game this season after tearing the UCL in his right thumb in late September. The former Duke standout played 23 contests as a rookie, topping all first-year players with 15.3 points per game while contributing 2.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds across 25.7 minutes.
The No. 16 pick in the 2024 draft shot 38.3% from three-point range, fourth among rookies, and set an NBA rookie record by making at least three triples in eight consecutive games last November. During that stretch, he also scored 20 or more points in seven straight outings.
McCain’s debut season ended on Dec. 13 when he suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee against the Indiana Pacers.
