The Dallas Mavericks signed forward Matt Cross, center Jamarion Sharp and guard Zhaire Smith on the morning of Oct. 18 and released all three players that afternoon, the club announced.
The sequence indicates that each player is expected to report to the Mavericks’ G League affiliate, the Texas Legends. Players in this situation typically sign Exhibit 10 agreements, which allow them to earn bonuses of up to $85,300 if they remain with the Legends for at least 60 days.
Player summaries
Matt Cross completed his collegiate career at SMU last season after earlier stops at UMass, Louisville and Miami (FL). In 34 games (31 starts) for the Mustangs, the 6-foot-7 forward averaged 11.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.2 steals. He went undrafted in June.
Jamarion Sharp, a 7-foot-5 center, appeared in 29 games (18 starts) for the Legends in 2024-25, posting 6.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.2 blocks across 21.6 minutes per contest. He joined the Mavericks’ Summer League roster for the second straight year in July, averaging 2.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 16.1 minutes.
Zhaire Smith played 14 games (12 starts) with the Legends last season and averaged 20.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists. Earlier in 2024-25, the former first-round pick logged 13 games (four starts) with the Cleveland Charge, contributing 6.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists. Smith spent his first two NBA seasons with Philadelphia before injuries and a severe allergic reaction interrupted his career.
The Mavericks’ roster now returns to its previous count, while Cross, Sharp and Smith are positioned to open training camp with the Legends.
