The Houston Rockets have signed free-agent guards Daishen Nix and Caleb McConnell, the club announced, giving Houston 20 players under contract—one below the preseason maximum.

Nix, 23, has appeared in 99 regular-season games since entering the NBA in 2021. He spent his first two seasons with Houston and opened last year on a two-way deal with Minnesota before returning to the Rockets’ G League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. In 24 outings with the Vipers during the 2024-25 campaign, the 6-4 playmaker averaged 15.3 points, 7.0 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals in 32.2 minutes. He shot 26.4% from three on 5.0 attempts per game and committed 3.8 turnovers per contest.

McConnell, a 6-7 shooting guard, went undrafted out of Rutgers in 2023 and spent last season with the Greensboro Swarm. Over 42 G League games, he posted 6.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.6 steals in 25.9 minutes. McConnell earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year honors twice while with the Scarlet Knights.

Rio Grande Valley holds Nix’s returning rights and acquired McConnell’s rights in a recent multi-team trade. Both players are expected to be waived within the next day and report to the Vipers. If their deals are standard Exhibit 10 contracts, each could secure a bonus of up to $85,300 by spending at least 60 days with the affiliate.
