Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George is not projected to be available for opening night while he continues to recover from offseason knee surgery, according to sources who spoke with ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Sources said George is progressing well but still needs to clear several medical benchmarks before appearing in a regular-season contest. The nine-time All-Star is anticipated to make his debut shortly after the start of the schedule.

George underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in July after injuring it during a workout. The 6-foot-8 veteran was slated for a September reevaluation.

In the summer of 2024, George signed a four-year, $212 million maximum contract with Philadelphia but appeared in only 41 games last season. Multiple injuries led to injections in his left adductor muscle and left knee, and he was shut down in March.

George averaged 16.2 points in 2024-25, his lowest mark since an injury-shortened six-game campaign in 2014-15. The forward has topped 56 games played just once since the 2018-19 season.
