The Cleveland Cavaliers plan to add free-agent guard Darius Brown II after their third preseason matchup against the Boston Celtics on Sunday, according to reporter Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com.
Brown is expected to be in uniform for the team’s preseason finale against the Detroit Pistons next Tuesday. Contract terms were not disclosed, but the 26-year-old is widely anticipated to receive a non-guaranteed training-camp deal with Exhibit 10 provisions. If he is waived before opening night—a likely scenario—Brown could earn a bonus of up to $85,300 by spending at least 60 days with Cleveland’s G League affiliate, the Cleveland Charge.
The 6’2″ point guard went undrafted out of Utah State in 2024. He signed an Exhibit 10 agreement with the Cavaliers last fall, was released a few days later, and spent the entire 2024-25 season with the Charge. Over 44 G League games, he averaged 7.8 points, 4.8 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 25.1 minutes per contest.
Cleveland currently has the offseason maximum of 21 players under contract, meaning the front office will need to waive someone before officially adding Brown.
