Milwaukee — Two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Giannis Antetokounmpo said Wednesday that his focus remains on leading the Milwaukee Bucks, but conceded that “it’s human” to rethink the future if circumstances change.
Speaking as the Bucks prepare for the 2025-26 regular season, Antetokounmpo addressed a recent report that Milwaukee held offseason trade talks with the New York Knicks. The 30-year-old forward, who said he has not read the story, stressed that winning titles drives his decisions.
“I’ve said this many times: I want to be in a situation that I can win,” Antetokounmpo told reporters. “I believe in this team. I believe in my teammates. I’m here to lead this team to wherever we can go … Now, if in six, seven months I change my mind, I think that’s human, too.”
Antetokounmpo missed the start of training camp with an illness but rejoined the club last weekend in Miami ahead of Sunday’s preseason opener, a game he did not play. Milwaukee will host the Detroit Pistons on Thursday at Fiserv Forum.
The forward described the offseason as a period of “temptation,” noting the flurry of calls and proposals that can arise. Once camp begins, he said, social media is set aside so his attention stays on basketball. “My decision today is that I’m here and I’m committed to this team,” he added.
