LOS ANGELES — LeBron James’ latest promise of a major “decision” turned out to be a new advertising campaign, not a career announcement.
The Los Angeles Lakers star had told followers on Monday that he would reveal the “decision of all decisions” at noon ET on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2025. Instead, the news surfaced about 90 minutes early when cognac maker Hennessy released the details first.
In a short video, James declares, “This fall, I’m going to be taking my talents to Hennessy V.S.O.P.,” echoing the phrasing he used in July 2010 when announcing his move to the Miami Heat. The ad shows James walking to a chair and sitting opposite another man, a setup reminiscent of the original televised special hosted by Jim Gray.
Hennessy said it will launch a limited-edition orange bottle that features James’ name and his signature “crowning” gesture, a nod to his “King James” nickname. The company called the collaboration “a creative reunion and shared cultural legacy.”
The teaser sparked widespread speculation online. James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, turns 41 in December and is poised to begin a record 23rd season. Because he is not under contract beyond this year, many fans wondered if the post might signal retirement plans. Secondary-market ticket prices for the Lakers’ final regular-season home game in April spiked after his initial hint.
Social-media users also floated the possibility of an endorsement reveal—an accurate prediction. The spot ends with James saying, “I like my decision.”
