Second-year Detroit Pistons swingman Ron Holland reported to training camp 15 pounds heavier after an offseason program designed to prepare him for possible minutes at power forward behind Tobias Harris. “Whatever position they need me to go in and play, I’m ready for it,” Holland told the Detroit Free Press, noting he could be asked to defend fours this season.
Head coach J.B. Bickerstaff also outlined plans to amplify Detroit’s transition game. The Pistons finished the 2024-25 campaign second in fast-break points per contest (18.5) and seventh in points off turnovers (19). Bickerstaff said the goal is to let a strong defense “go from a great defensive team to an explosive offensive team.”
In Chicago, No. 12 overall pick Noa Essengue, 18, may spend considerable time with the G League Windy City Bulls as he develops, executive vice president of basketball operations Artūras Karnišovas told reporters. Management will decide on his immediate role after the remainder of training camp and preseason.
Bulls center Nikola Vučević, entering the final season of a three-year, $60 million contract, acknowledged he was aware of offseason trade rumors but maintained regular communication with team officials. “If a trade would have happened, it would have happened. It didn’t, and I’m glad to be here,” he said, adding that he focused on family and national-team commitments rather than speculation.
