CHICAGO — Guard Josh Giddey said negotiations on his new contract with the Chicago Bulls “never got tense,” even though talks ran into September. The 21-year-old restricted free agent ultimately accepted a four-year, $100 million agreement to remain with the team.

“It’s a negotiation, and that’s how it goes,” Giddey told reporters. “The fact that it’s locked in and I have four years where I don’t have to think about it is a pretty big weight off my shoulders.” The Australian playmaker added that he delegated most discussions to his representatives and always expected to stay in Chicago.

Pistons

DETROIT — Second-year guard Jaden Ivey has been cleared for full activity after a fractured left fibula limited him to 30 games last season. “The journey has been a grind to get back, to get healed, to get stronger,” Ivey said.

President of basketball operations Trajan Langdon noted that Ivey faces no physical restrictions but will need time to regain rhythm and conditioning. The former Purdue standout is eligible for a rookie-scale extension through Oct. 20.

Magic

ORLANDO — Center Wendell Carter Jr. enters training camp citing his highest confidence level after a healthy summer. “The more you work, the more you’re on the court, you feel like, ‘OK, I know this is going in,’ even if it doesn’t,” he said.

Carter also praised second-year guard Anthony Black, observing that “when AB is on his game, he’s one of the best guards in this league.” Black is expected to become extension-eligible next offseason.
