LeBron James made clear during Los Angeles Lakers Media Day that he is not planning to stretch out his career simply to suit up alongside his younger son, Bryce James.

“I’m not waiting on Bryce,” the 41-year-old forward told reporters. “He has his own timeline; I have mine, and I don’t know if they match up. We’ll see.”

James and his eldest son, Bronny James, became the NBA’s first father-and-son teammates last season when Bronny joined the Lakers. Bryce, 17, is beginning his freshman year at the University of Arizona and is not expected to enter the NBA for at least two seasons.

While LeBron left the door open to the possibility of playing with Bryce, he emphasized that each of them is on a separate path. “If it happens, so be it,” he said, “but I’m not sitting around waiting for it.”

James is entering the final year of his contract after completing his 22nd NBA season and acknowledged that retirement is a realistic option in the near future.

The four-time MVP also discussed his approach to training camp, noting he plans to manage his workload after dealing with several nagging injuries, including an MCL sprain suffered in the Lakers’ final game last season.
