TORONTO — RJ Barrett said he was neither surprised nor bothered by offseason speculation that the Raptors might move him in pursuit of another star. The 24-year-old swingman, who is owed $57 million over the next two seasons, told reporters he understands his contract and positional overlap with forward Brandon Ingram make him a logical name in trade talks.

“Obviously, this is the place I want to be. I would love to finish my career here,” Barrett said. “But you have to understand the business. People are just looking at numbers and figures. All I can do is play my game and help the team win.”

Ingram welcomes clean bill of health

Ingram, limited by an ankle injury to just 22 games last year, said he feels “like a fresh start” with new teammates and coaches. “I’m excited to bring my skill level, make things easier for other guys, playmaking, scoring, defense—just having fun,” the 27-year-old forward noted.

Barnes sets clear standard

Reigning All-Star Scottie Barnes declared a postseason berth as the minimum expectation. “Our standard is to make the playoffs and win some games,” the 23-year-old forward said. Barnes added he is considering representing Jamaica internationally after winning multiple youth gold medals with Team USA.

Quickley focused on durability

Guard Immanuel Quickley, who appeared in only 33 contests last season because of injuries, emphasized conditioning work on the track this summer. “Every offseason I try to get stronger. I may look skinny, but I feel stronger,” the 25-year-old said.

Murray-Boyles aims to set defensive tone

First-round pick Collin Murray-Boyles plans to earn minutes by challenging teammates in practice. “I want to give them the hardest time on defense so it’s easier for them in games,” the 19-year-old forward explained.
