Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro said Monday he is “optimistic” about reaching a contract extension with the franchise once he becomes eligible on Oct. 1.

The 25-year-old, still rehabbing from offseason ankle surgery and not taking part in training camp, can sign a veteran extension worth up to $149.7 million over three years. The NBA allows a roughly three-week window for such deals; if no agreement is reached by Oct. 20, Herro would have to wait until the 2026 offseason, when he will be entering the final year of his current contract.

“I expect to get something done, but we’ll see what happens,” Herro told reporters, noting that his representatives and team officials are scheduled to meet Wednesday. “I’ve been here six years, and I feel I’ve earned something. I want to be here.”

Herro is set to earn $31 million in 2025-26 and $33 million in 2026-27 under his existing deal. Last season he posted career bests across the board, averaging 23.9 points and 5.5 assists while playing 77 games and shooting 47.2 percent from the field—numbers that led to his first All-Star selection.

While the Heat are not guaranteed to offer the full $149.7 million, Herro indicated he is open to negotiation. “It’s not $50 million a year or nothing,” he said, adding that he has a figure in mind but will not let talks affect his mindset. “If we don’t get something done, I’m not going to be a problem. I’m happy to be here and excited to play.”
