FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum watched the New England Patriots’ joint practice with the Washington Commanders on Wednesday and walked along the sideline without a protective boot or brace on his right foot.
Tatum underwent surgery in May to repair the ruptured right Achilles tendon he suffered during Boston’s Eastern Conference semifinal loss to the New York Knicks earlier that month. The 27-year-old forward is expected to miss most, if not all, of the upcoming NBA season.
During Wednesday’s session, Tatum remained near the sideline, mingling with Patriots players and greeting Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. His appearance marked one of the first times he has been seen in public without immobilization equipment since the operation.
The three-time All-Star has appeared in several social media videos lifting weights at the Celtics’ practice facility. In June, Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens said Tatum’s rehabilitation was “progressing well” but stressed the organization would not rush his return and had set no official timetable.
