After Dallas matched a two-year minimum-salary offer sheet C Moussa Cisse signed with New York, the 2025 undrafted rookie is working to turn his new standard NBA deal into a fully guaranteed contract. Speaking Tuesday at the Mavs Hoop Camp, Cisse said the upgrade from last season’s two-way pact is only a first step. “The job isn’t done. I have to keep working,” he told reporters.
The 7-footer will receive roughly $1.1 million if he remains on the roster through Sept. 1. Staying past Oct. 1 would lock in his entire $2.2 million 2026-27 salary. Cisse is the lone non-guaranteed player among the Mavericks’ 16 current contracts, making training camp pivotal. He noted that new president Masai Ujiri and first-year head coach Dusty May have already expressed confidence in him, adding that May’s early phone call “puts you in a position where you can’t disappoint him.”
Gafford unfazed by trade rumors
Frontcourt teammate Daniel Gafford, frequently mentioned in offseason trade chatter, told DLLS Sports’ Ron Harrod Jr. he is comfortable with any outcome. “If they want to keep me, I’m more than grateful. If they ship me off, it’s just another step in my career,” the veteran center said.
Roster balance still in question
The Mavericks finished 26-56 last season but expect improvement with Kyrie Irving back and No. 2 overall pick Cooper Flagg continuing to develop, Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News wrote. Ten of Dallas’ 15 standard spots are currently allocated to frontcourt players, leaving the backcourt comparatively thin.
Mavs.com’s Eddie Sefko identified the collection of forwards and wings—Flagg, P.J. Washington, Naji Marshall, Zaccharie Risacher and Tarik Biberovic—as the club’s biggest strength heading into 2026-27.
