Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are still looking for frontcourt help and have Chicago Bulls center Jalen Smith on their radar, according to reporting by Ryan Ward of LA On SI that cited Dan Woike of The Athletic. Smith’s energy, rebounding and floor-spacing ability make him an appealing trade candidate, but it remains unclear whether Chicago is open to dealing him or what return the Bulls would demand.

If trading proves too costly, Ward added that veteran big man Nick Richards could surface as a free-agent alternative for Los Angeles.

Grizzlies

Memphis is entering the first season of a rebuild, yet local analyst Landon Speck of Grizzlies On SI believes the club could still chase a Western Conference play-in berth. No. 3 overall draft pick Cameron Boozer headlines a young core that also features Zach Edey, Cedric Coward, GG Jackson and Jaylen Wells. Boozer’s readiness to contribute will be pivotal.

Veterans Ty Jerome, Jerami Grant and Isaiah Stewart are expected to shape an identity rooted in defense, rebounding and physical play, giving the roster a balance of youth and experience.

Magic

A panel convened by Magic On SI agreed that three-point shooting remains Orlando’s most pressing concern. While new head coach Sean Sweeney and a healthier lineup could create higher-quality looks, several contributors questioned whether the team did enough this summer to upgrade one of the NBA’s least efficient perimeter attacks.

Some panelists countered that shot selection—not shooting talent—is the larger issue, arguing that improved health and a refined offensive scheme might be sufficient to elevate the Magic from playoff participant to legitimate contender.
